Is it alright for the girl to make the first move?

I already know he likes me and I like him. He's just a bit shy, sweet and well, you get the point. We're constantly flirting, but I've never considered flirting as making a move - it's just playing around. Anyways, he (very subtly) asked me out and I agreed. Now for the question. I'm afraid that he might be too scared to make the first official move and I know that the "date" might be enough except that we're pretty good friends and it isn't unusual for friends to hang out. I'm wondering if guys are freaked out or something if the girl makes the first official move. Or should I just wait for him to make it?
