Hubby jailed. How can I do my own divorce?

Check with the state you are in. If he is jail, then he is easily found. File an original petition for divorce in the district court you are in. Then, have him served at the prision he is in. He will have a certain time to respond. He can either sign the papers or contest them (refuse to sign). If he does that, then a court date will be set, and he could show up. Either way it goes, it shouldn't be too hard. You will need his inmate number to have him served. You will need to call the prision he is at and find out who will serve and how to get them the proper papers. An original petition of divorce is easily made. You can find it on lawhelp.org or go to your local law library and ask someone there. I would ask for sole custody. Asking the judge to take away his parental rights, considering he is in jail for ual ult. If you really feel you need a lawyer, check with your state, see if there is help for single parents. The attorney general website should have some answers. Otherwise, call a lawyer for a free consultation. See what steps you would need to take.
